Kindness to Animals Spiritual: Vallalar’s Path to Immortality

The Saint-Scientist Vallalar has a precise answer for what you came here for, which is kindness to animals spiritual. This question often arises when we feel a deep connection to the life around us, wondering if our compassion has a purpose beyond simple ethics. This article explains the three stages of bodily transformation that Vallalar documentedβ€”and why he claimed that active compassion for all living beings is the key that unlocks them.

While most great spiritual traditions teach nonviolence as a moral foundation, Vallalar connected it to something more specific than peace of mind. For him, it was the scientific basis for removing aging, disease, and even death from the human body. To understand this claim, we must first look at the man who made it.

The Life and Teachings of Vallalar

Ramalinga Swamigal, known as Vallalar, was a 19th-century Tamil mystic whose collected writings, the Thiru Arutpa, remain one of the most extraordinary spiritual records ever produced. His life was filled with remarkable featsβ€”though he dismissed anything supernatural, insisting that everything he did was a science. He taught that the divine was an experience of Vast Grace-Light, or Arut Perum Jōti, accessible to any human being willing to practice universal compassion.

On January 30, 1874, accounts from those present record that he locked himself in a room in Mettukuppam and was never seen againβ€”his body never found. This event is documented by government records and by British Collector John Henry Garstin.

From Nonviolence to Jeeva Karunyam

Ahimsaβ€”nonviolenceβ€”is a foundational principle in many spiritual paths. But Vallalar took this concept from a passive ethic to an active, scientific practice he called Jeeva Karunyam. This translates to compassion (Karunyam) for all living souls (Jeeva).

For Vallalar, this was not a suggestion but a law of nature. He taught that the human body is designed to be a temple for the divine Grace-Light. Causing fear, pain, or death to any living creature, especially for food, creates a dense, dark residue in the body. This residue physically blocks the light from descending and beginning its work of transformation.

Jeeva Karunyam, therefore, is the active protection of every living soul from suffering. It is the conscious choice to stop participating in systems that cause harm. Vallalar was clear that a diet that includes the flesh of animals makes spiritual progress toward the higher stages of life impossible.

How the Practice of Kindness to Animals Spiritual Unlocks the Deathless Body

Vallalar claimed that Jeeva Karunyam was the key to a three-stage process of physical transformation, culminating in a deathless body of light. He did not present this as a metaphor. He described it as a repeatable, scientific process grounded in the daily practice of compassion.

Vallalar taught that none of these techniques can take root without Jeeva Karunyamβ€”active compassion that prevents suffering in other living beings. The central practice for invoking the divine light is the recitation of the Mahamantra:

AruαΉ Perum Jōti β€” AruαΉ Perum Jōti β€” TaαΉ‡i Perum KaruαΉ‡ai β€” AruαΉ Perum Jōti

This translates to: β€œThe Vast Grace-Light. The Vast Grace-Light. The Incomparable Great Compassion. The Vast Grace-Light.” Chanting this with a heart established in compassion begins the transformation.

The first stage is the Suddha Deham, or Pure Body. As a person practices Jeeva Karunyam and maintains a plant-based diet free from cruelty, the body begins to purify itself. According to his teachings in texts like the Nithya Karma Vidhi, the dense residue of past violence dissolves. This body becomes immune to disease, fatigue, and the effects of aging.

A practitioner, after months of compassionate living and a clean diet, might notice a persistent feeling of physical lightness. Waking becomes easier, energy is more stable, and a quiet clarity replaces the usual mental fog. Vallalar taught this is the first sign that the body is becoming a clearer vessel for grace.

The second stage is the Pranava Deham, or Primal Body. With continued practice, the physical body becomes increasingly subtle, transforming into a form made of primal light and sound. It is no longer subject to the same physical laws of density and decay.

The final stage, which Vallalar’s own life demonstrated, is the Gnana Deham, or Wisdom Body. Here, the physical form merges completely with the Vast Grace-Light, becoming a deathless, divine body of pure intelligence and compassion. The accounts of his final disappearance are understood as the culmination of this process.

Is This the Same as the Rainbow Body?

Some may see a parallel between Vallalar’s teachings and the JalΓΌ, or Rainbow Body, found in Tibetan Dzogchen traditions. While both describe a transformation of the physical form into light, they are distinct in their ultimate aim.

The Rainbow Body is typically a post-mortem event, where a master’s physical body dissolves into light at the time of death, sometimes leaving only hair and nails. Vallalar’s path, however, is focused on the perfection and perpetuation of the living body. The goal is not to dissolve the form at death but to transform it into an immortal vessel of grace that overcomes death itself.

Your First Step in Jeeva Karunyam Today

This path begins not with complex meditation but with a simple, conscious act of compassion. Vallalar’s teaching makes the spiritual practical. You can begin the work of purification immediately.

Replace one animal-based meal today with a plant-based option from Vallalar’s Nithya Karma Vidhi. Choose simple, sattvic foods like rice, lentils, cooked vegetables, or fruits. As you eat, hold the intention that this act of non-harm is your first step toward making your body a temple for light.
