Inspired by Ramalinga Swamigal · Vallalar

Every living being
deserves compassion.

We are a nonprofit carrying forward Vallalar’s Samarasa Suddha Sanmarkkam. The work is plain: his writings offered free to anyone, warm food for whoever is hungry, and compassion for every living being, practiced rather than preached.

Our inspiration

Ramalinga Swamigal
Vallalar

Born in 1823 in Tamil Nadu, Vallalar was a mystic, poet, physician, and social reformer at once. In an age of colonial rule, caste walls, and ritual for ritual’s sake, he taught something startling: all life is one family, and compassion counts only when it moves your hands.

He fed the hungry when almost no one else would. He opened a school that turned no one away, whatever their age or caste. And he left more than 5,800 Tamil poems that point, verse after verse, to a universal ethics grounded in the unity of all living things.

We take him as our inspiration, not our idol. We read him the way you would read a great philosopher or a careful scientist: for the weight of the ideas.

The Scientist of Longevity

What sets Vallalar apart from other mystics is his attention to the body itself. He asked his listeners plainly: “Do you accept ageing, illness, and finally death? If not, do something, and follow my example.”

He never promised an escape to a distant paradise. For him the work happens here, in this body, on this earth: purification through discipline and compassion, opening the way to a longevity without a fixed limit. A philosophy and a practice of life, not a medical claim and not a therapy.

“Whenever I saw withering crops, I also withered.”

What guides us

Our values

These four are not house rules. They are ways of seeing that Vallalar taught and lived, and the first of them is the ground the others stand on: for him, Jeeva Karunyam is the very doorway to spiritual life.

Jeeva Karunyam

Active Universal Compassion

Compassion for every living being, carried into action: food given, pain eased, fear calmed. This is where the path begins, and where it proves itself.

Ahimsa

Non-Violence

Harm nothing that lives. A plant-based table follows from this on its own, chosen out of love rather than imposed as law.

Anma Neya Orumaipadu

Unity of Souls

The habit of seeing yourself in every living being, across species, caste, faith, and origin. One life, wearing many forms.

Arut Perum Jothi

The Vast Grace Light

One shared Reality shining through all of it: the Vast Grace Light, source and ground of every being. Real, present, and open to anyone who turns toward it.

Living heritage

The places that still stand.

Vallalar did more than write. He built. Three places he raised in Tamil Nadu are still standing, still open, still doing exactly what he built them to do.

Sathya Dharma Salai, Vallalar's solidarity kitchen in Vadalur, Tamil Nadu

Est. 1867 · Vadalur, Tamil Nadu

Sathya Dharma Salai

The solidarity kitchen Vallalar opened to feed the hungry without distinction of caste, religion, or origin. By tradition, the fire he lit in 1867 has never been allowed to go out. More than 150 years later, anyone who arrives hungry is still fed.

Sathya Gnana Sabhai meditation hall in Vadalur, Tamil Nadu

Est. 1872 · Vadalur, Tamil Nadu

Sathya Gnana Sabhai

A hall for meditation with no idols, no offerings, no priesthood. At its centre a single flame burns behind seven veils, each veil one layer of ignorance to be drawn aside. Nothing here asks to be worshipped. There is only a light to walk toward.

Siddhi Vaalagam, the golden door where Vallalar disappeared in Mettukuppam, Tamil Nadu

January 30, 1874 · Mettukuppam, Tamil Nadu

Siddhi Vaalagam

In January 1874, Vallalar entered this room, asked for the door to be locked, and told his students he would not be found. When British officials led by J.H. Garstin, Collector of South Arcot, later had the room opened and searched, it was empty. No body, no tunnel, no trace. The Collector, a colonial administrator with no stake in the story, recorded the fact and closed the file.

Vallalar had announced it as his final teaching: the dissolution of the mortal body into light. Whatever you make of it, the record stands. So does the golden door.
