Ramalinga Swamigal (Vallalar) did exactly that, 150 years ago in Tamil Nadu. We exist to make sure his wisdom of Suddha Sanmarkkam reaches every human being alive today, in every language, free of charge.
Who was Vallalar
A man who wept at the suffering of a withering crop.
Ramalinga Swamigal (Vallalar) was born in 1823 in Tamil Nadu. He did not write about compassion from a safe distance. He lived it with his whole being: weeping at drought-stricken fields, feeding the hungry before himself, and teaching that we must see the divine in all living beings and help them, rather than make food offerings in stone temples.
He called this Jeeva Karunyam, compassion toward all living beings, as the only true path to the divine. The path of Suddha Sanmarkkam is not ritual. It is radical, daily, unconditional kindness practiced toward every form of life.

as I saw hungry destitute beggars,
I too fainted with hunger.”
Why we exist
His teachings exist. Most of the world has never heard of them.
Ramalinga’s collected works, the Thiru Arutpa (poems and songs of divine grace) and the Urainaidai (prose works), remain largely untranslated. Outside Tamil Nadu, almost no one knows his name.
We believe that is a loss for all of humanity. The Sanmarkkam path of compassion, plant-based living, and direct encounter with the divine light (Arut Perum Jothi) offers something every person is searching for: a way to live that is kind, free, and connected to something greater.
Sanmarkkam Life is a registered nonprofit, run entirely by volunteers. No fees. No gatekeeping. Just the teachings, freely shared.
Our Mission
Make the Suddha Sanmarkkam path available to every person on earth; free of charge, in every language.
We translate, publish, and distribute Ramalinga’s teachings. We create local centers where people can gather, eat, and learn together. We run Anna Dhanam (free food service) as a direct practice of Jeeva Karunyam. Everything we produce is given freely. That is not a policy. It is the teaching itself.

Vallalar called this Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga: the universal path of truth, open to all, regardless of religion, caste, or background. Ramalinga did not argue with other traditions. He simply lit a lamp. We carry that lamp forward.
