We welcome you to Sanmarkkam Life — A Non-Profit dedicated to eradicate all sufferings from all living beings: whether of humans, animals, plants and other creatures. We are inspired by the doctrine of Universal Compassion (Jeeva Karunya) & Universal Oneness (Anma Meya Orumaipadu) of Ramalinga Swamigal, lovingly known as Vallalar , the 19th-century Tamil mystic-scientist, and visionary, founder of the Samarasa Suddha Sanmargam Sathya Sangam, the Pure Brotherhood of Truth and Compassion.
Our mission is to help as many living beings as possible worlwide to live a Life in accordance with Suddha Sanmarkkam, hence the name Sanmarkkam Life.
On Ramalinga Swamigal (Vallalar)
Vallalar, born as Ramalingam on October 5, 1823, in the village of Marudur (in present-day Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu, India).
Vallalar was a saint unlike any other. He was a social riformer, saint, scientist, philosopher, philantrophist, medical expert, poet, etc. all at once.
He emerged in an age dominated by british oppression, religious divisions, superstitions, caste and systems based on inequality, yet he embodied an extraordinary vision of Oneness among all living beings, Boundless Compassion, & Divine Light.
Also known as Thiru Arutprakasa Vallalar and Vallalar Peruman, he composed over 5,800 poems in Tamil, collectively known as the Thiru Arutpa. These verses form the sacred foundation of his path — Samarasa Suddha Sanmarkkam, the Way of Pure, Harmonious Truth.
The Scientist of the Deathlessness
What sets Vallalar apart from any other mystic or reformer in his focus on the body preservation & Longevity. He famously said: “Do you accept aging, disease and finally death? If not, do something and follow my example” He did not seek a spiritual escape to a distant heaven; he promoted a total preservation of the human biological frame here and now. A form of biological immortality. He demonstrated in his life that sufferings such as disease, aging and ultimately death, only come from our ignorance. The main factors leading to our demise according to him are food, sex, sleep, fear, & many others.
Biological immortality according to him, is a direct result of Compassionate Intelligence, thereby avoiding dangerous consequences. For example, red meat is now scientifically recognized as cancer inducing. By adopting a compassionate vegetarian/vegan diet, we can avoid such dangers leading to cancer disease and potentially death.
🏛️ The Institutions Vallalar Founded
Out of philantrophic service, Vallalar established 5 institutions:
1) Sathya Dharma Salai – A revolutionary charity kitchen to feed the hungry without discrimination, still runs today and supported by donations
2) Sanmarkkam Bhodini (School for the Pure Path) – An experimental and inclusive school that broke all traditional barriers of his time.

Unique Trait: It was open to all, regardless of age. Both children and the elderly studied together.

Trilingual Curriculum: Vallalar prioritized Tamil, Sanskrit, and English (in that specific order) to bridge ancient wisdom with modern global communication. It was managed by the scholar Thozhuvur Velayuda Mudaliar.
3) Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sathya Sangam – (The Association of the Unified Pure Path)
The organizational heart of the path. It is a non-religious fellowship created to unite people under the banner of Universal Brotherhood (Anma Meya Orumaipadu), moving beyond the divisions of caste, creed, or nationality.
4) Sathya Gnana Sabhai (Hall of True Wisdom-1872) An architectural masterpiece designed as a meditation hall. It contains no idols and no offerings are accepted; instead, a single lamp (Jyoti) is placed behind seven veils, symbolizing the removal of the layers of ignorance to reach Enlightenment.
5) Siddhi Valagam (Place of Mastery)– The site where Vallalar delivered his final speech and eventually performed his “dematerialization”. The incident was recorded by the British collector Jhon Henry Garstin in his “Manual of South Arcot District” It represents the “laboratory,” where the theory of biological immortality was finalized into practice.
📜 The Planned Journal: Sanmarkkam Viveka Vriddhi
Vallalar’s vision was also intellectual, communicative and inclusive. He planned a monthly magazine called Sanmarkkam Viveka Vriddhi (The Growth of Sanmargam Wisdom).

The Blueprint of Unity: A prospectus was signed by 49 diverse individuals, including a Muslim member, Kadar Sahib.

Legacy: Although the journal was never officially published, the prospectus stands as proof of his commitment to a multicultural and inclusive intellectual community.
4) On Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sathya Sangam
This is not a sect, cult or a “religion”, but the Pure Fellowship of Truth. Its purpose is to unite all the living creatures. It’s principles are:

Absolute non-violence (ahimsa) and non-killing by following a vegetarian or even better a vegan diet.

The removal of superstition, sectarianism, religious dogmas and any other form of evil.

The practice of “Anma Meya Orumaipadu” (Soul-Unity) — seeing oneself in every living being.

The Practice of “Jeeva Karunyam” (Absolute Compassion) towards all living beings without discrimination.

To unite all humans into the worship of one Reality that is absolute Compassion; The Arut Perum Jothi, The Vast Grace Light

To eradicate the sufferings of hunger, thirst, disease, animal killing and suffering, death, desire, fear, poverty and ultimately death itself
✨Sanmarkkam Life’s Mission & Values
Suddha Sanmargam (or Samarasa Suddha Sanmargam) means the Unified, Pure, and Natural Path of Truth. Unlike traditional religions that divide people by name or ritual, Vallalar’s path speaks to the eternal unity of all life.
At the heart of this path is Jeevakarunyam — compassion toward all living beings. Vallalar taught that true spirituality is not found in temples or texts alone, but in how we live:

Feeding the hungry with vegetarian/vegan food without pride

Never harming animals — practicing strict vegetarianism/Veganism

Seeing all lives as sacred, regardless of caste, creed, religion, or race

Cultivating inner purity, non-violence (ahimsa), and grace.
He declared that the Ultimate Divine is not a person or a form, but a radiant light of pure compassion — ARUTPERUNJOTHI, the Vast Supreme Grace Light.
🕯️ The Mantra and the Message
Ramalinga gave the world a powerful sound, also known as MahaMantra:
“ArutPerunJothi ArutPerunJothi ThaniPerunKarunai ArutPerunJothi”
(Vast Grace-Light. Vast Grace-Light. Unique Vast. Compassion. Supreme Grace-Light.)
This is not just a chant. It is a vibration that awakens our consciousness, increasing our compassion and connection to the Divine. It’s scientifically proven now that particular sounds effect our brain & consciousness.
Vallalar claimed that through spiritual discipline, moral purity, and universal compassion, the humans could achieve longevity and even biological immortality and merge with the Source, the Vast Grace Light.
📜 The Final Message and Disappearance
In 1873, Vallalar raised the Sanmarga Flag and delivered his final speech known as Perupadesam — a spiritual discourse of unity, light, and boundless compassion.
On January 30, 1874, Vallalar locked himself inside his room at Siddhi Valagam, asking followers not to disturb him. When the British authorities such as Jhon Henry Garstin finally opened the door, they found no body, no trace. His disappearance remains a mystery, recorded officially in the Madras District Gazetteer & Manual of South Arcot District.
To this day, many believe Ramalinga achieved a deathless transformation, perhaps the next step of evolution after Homo Sapiens Sapiens, merging his physical form with the Source. He announced his intent of merging back with the Divine in his poems of Thiru Arutpa

Our organization was born to finally bring what humanity needs the most during those difficult times. We strongly believe that by diffusing the doctrine of Suddha Sanmarkkam, an utopian “Heaven on Earth” becomes possible as Ramalinga envisioned in his poems. “Everyone said it was impossible, until someone made it possible” – Anonymous Indeed we won’t be happy, until all living beings are living joyfully and in Absolute Compassion.
Sanmarkkam Life translates Ramalinga’s 19th-century wisdom into 21st-century action:
- Food Distribution: Following the Dharma Salai model, we strive to offer Free plant-based food to the needy.
- Solidal Emporium: All the food items and herbals that Ramalinga recommended are also offered in our Solidal Emporium. Everything is Free and donation sustained.
- Free Education: We offer Translations and Commentaries of Ramalinga’s Thiru Arutpa poems and Urainaidai in digital format. These works hold immense value and are available to everyone in all the major languages. We also provide short videos of nuggets of wisdom from Vallalar and his philosophy. This is to make Ramalinga’s Science of Grace available to anyone.
