The Saint-Scientist Vallalar has a precise answer for what you came here for, which is god grace light teaching. This article explains the one method Vallalar gave for receiving divine grace, and how that grace transforms the physical body into a body of light. Iβve been looking for this for a long time. Much spiritual writing speaks of grace as a mysterious gift, something to be prayed for and hoped for. Vallalar offered it as a direct result of a specific, repeatable action. To understand his claim, we need to look at the man who made it.
The Life and Teachings of Vallalar

Ramalinga Swamigal, known as Vallalar, was a 19th-century Tamil mystic whose collected writings, the Thiru Arutpa, remain one of the most extraordinary spiritual records ever produced. His life was filled with remarkable featsβthough he dismissed anything supernatural, insisting that everything he did was a science. He established a center for feeding the poor that has operated without interruption for over 150 years, running on unsolicited donations. On January 30, 1874, accounts from those present record that he locked himself in a room in Mettukuppam and was never seen againβhis body never found. This event is documented by government records and by British Collector John Henry Garstin.
The Single Condition for Divine Grace
Many paths suggest prayer, devotion, or ritual as the way to connect with the divine. Vallalarβs teaching on this subject is unique in its precision. In his work Jeevakarunyam Ozhukkam (The Discipline of Compassion for Life), he states that there is only one way to receive divine grace.
That way is to show compassion to all living beings.
This was not a philosophy for him, but a functional instruction. He taught that the divine, which he called Arut Perum Jyothi or the Vast Grace-Light, is pure compassion. Therefore, the only way to become a vessel for that light is to embody compassion yourself. Prayer without compassion is a request unheard. Ritual without compassion is an empty act. Devotion that does not extend to all life is incomplete. For Vallalar, compassion was the master key that opened the door to grace.
What is the Arut Perum Jyothi god grace light teaching?
Vallalarβs experience was not of a distant, personified God. It was of an immense, intelligent, and loving light that sustains all of existence. He called this Arut Perum Jyothi. This Vast Grace-Light is not a metaphor; he described it as a tangible substance that can enter, fill, and transform the physical body.
The teaching is direct: when a person actively practices Jeevakarunyamβfor example, by feeding a hungry person or animalβthey create an opening. Through that opening, the Grace-Light enters. This is a cause-and-effect relationship. The suffering of other beings creates a kind of spiritual darkness or density. By alleviating that suffering, you create a space for light.
To attune the mind and body to this light, Vallalar gave a Mahamantra. Its regular recitation, done from a place of genuine compassion, aligns the practitioner with the nature of grace:
AruαΉ Perum JΕti β AruαΉ Perum JΕti β
TaαΉi Perum KaruαΉai β AruαΉ Perum JΕti
This translates to: The Vast Grace-Light. The Vast Grace-Light. The Incomparable Great Compassion. The Vast Grace-Light.
The Three Stages of a Body Filled with Grace
When the Grace-Light is received consistently through acts of compassion, it begins to rework the physical body from the cells up. Vallalar documented three distinct stages of this transformation, presenting it as a spiritual science. Vallalar taught that none of these techniques can take root without Jeeva Karunyamβactive compassion that prevents suffering in other living beings.
Suddha Deham β The Pure Body
This is the first great stage. The body, saturated with Grace-Light, purifies itself. All disease, aging, and decay are halted. The need for sleep and the production of waste cease. The skin gives off a palpable light, and the body becomes extremely pliable and resilient. Vallalar detailed the specific plant-based diet in his text Nithya Karma Vidhi that supports this process, emphasizing foods that cause the least harm and carry the most subtle life-force.
As more Grace-Light is integrated, the Suddha Deham evolves into the Pranava Deham. Here, the physical form becomes subtler and translucent. It is no longer fully bound by physical laws. Witnesses documented that Vallalarβs body cast no shadow, a common account for those who have reached this stage. The body can appear and disappear at will and is impervious to injury from fire, water, or weapons. It is a body of pure light-energy, still visible but no longer dense matter.
Gnana Deham β The Wisdom Body
This is the final and ultimate stage, which Vallalar himself demonstrated. In this state, the physical structure of the Pranava Deham dissolves entirely, merging completely with the Vast Grace-Light. It is not death, but a conscious transformation into a deathless, omnipresent state of being. This is a state beyond form itself. While some Tibetan traditions speak of a βrainbow body,β the complete dematerialization of the Gnana Deham is a distinct outcome that Vallalar documented as the culmination of his path.
A person begins practicing Jeevakarunyam by leaving out water for birds each day. After a few weeks of this simple, consistent act, they notice a persistent feeling of inner quiet and lightness that wasnβt there before. Vallalar taught this is the first sign of grace taking root in the body.
One Action to Take for Grace Today
You do not need to start a massive charity to practice Jeevakarunyam. Grace responds to the quality of compassion, not the quantity of the act.
Before your next meal, pause for one minute. Think of one living beingβa person, an animal, or even a plantβthat is suffering from hunger, thirst, or pain. Hold them in your mind and silently offer them the nourishment you are about to receive. Do this with genuine feeling. This simple redirection of consciousness from yourself to another is a powerful act of Jeevakarunyam and opens the channel for grace.
